Criteria: "Several factors are key. Balance and development, musical excellence, production and inoversion, recording quality, interpretaion (under musical excellence) Dynamics. And the ability to know what, when and when not to play.". What makes a hit: "I seperate hit from a good song firstly. In pop terms there is a tried and tested formular, hit them with the hook, and sell records, but I see an attitude chane to that. The 14-16 years old bracket no longer buys records as well you know. There is no longer a baby boom going on and the market is wide open. I worked with Mickey Most, he told me if a song stands up acapella of with just a simple itar or piano backing it`s a potential hit. There`s a lot of truth in that. Hit potential is a generalization, I can think of many hits that have broken the formular.". Favourite Genre: I like all good quality music, I can`t seperate my favorite stye. It`s all valid to me.. Criteria: "I´ve always held that the most important aspect of appreciating anything - whether as a reviewer or a listener (and ultimately, isn´t the former just a more egocentric version of the latter?) is understanding its theme/point. I´m always impressed by a song that expresses something beyond the desire to fill up 4-5 minutes on a CD, and its elements combine to express it coherently.". What makes a hit: "Far from it.
